2005 WHOLESALE CD-ROM REPLICATION PRICING

Review these 9 steps to CD-ROM Replication or go directly to Pricing.

  1. Premastering
In CD-ROM premastering the media format is verified. This includes DDP (disc description protocol), security scrambling status, regional coding, video title and end sector instruction sets.

  2. Glass Mastering
A laser beam recorder (LBR) creates a glass master with all the data etched into a photo resistive layer.

  3. Electroplating
The glass master is electroplated with nickel, creating an intermediate mold called a father. The father is used to create a reverse intermediate mold called mother. Finally, the mother mold is used to create a stamper mold.

  4. Stamping
The stamper is mounted on to injection molding machines and presses the recorded data onto polycarbonate discs which eventually become CD-ROMs.

  5. Metallization
The transparent polycarbonate discs are covered by a micro thin layer of aluminum to reflect the laser light allowing the pits to be read.

  6. Lacquering
The CD-ROM is then spin coated with a protective layer of lacquer and is now ready for printing.

  7. Bonding
The 2 substrates are "glued" together to produce a CD-ROM disc. The gluing must be optically transparent, without defect, and of uniform thickness to the close tolerances of CD-ROM specifications.

  8. Printing
Printing either by a silk screen or offset process, with up to 6 colors right on the disc, is originated from film or a direct-to-plate process from images you submit. Normally, designers create photo or graphic images in Photoshop and insert into an Illustrator file. Illustrator creates the cleanest and smoothest text. Because silk screening is not as smooth as printing on paper, it is advised to use a 7.5 font size or larger.

Electronic Theater will also design and lay out your label artwork for you for a fee of $350.

  9. Packaging
The CD-ROM is automatically packaged bulk on spindle or can be assembled into a wide variety of high quality CD-ROM packaging or clear vinyl sleeves. Electronic Theater has created dies for 3 sizes of custom mailers with either a pocket or clip in button to hold the CDs inside.
